Web Search and Fetch for OpenClaw
The headline feature brings web search and web fetch capabilities directly into OpenClaw when launched via Ollama. Local and cloud models can now search the web for current information and extract readable content from URLs — without requiring JavaScript execution or browser automation.
This addition addresses a fundamental limitation of local language models: stale training data cutoff dates. Even the most capable local models have knowledge boundaries — they don’t know about yesterday’s CVEs, today’s library releases, or breaking news. With web search enabled, agents can access current documentation, latest package versions, recent security advisories, and real-time information.
The implementation uses the fetch and web_search tools that OpenClaw recognizes, providing a seamless experience where the agent decides when external information is needed. Results are fetched as markdown-readable content, preserving structure while removing JavaScript-heavy rendering complexity.

Non-Interactive (Headless) Mode

Organizations should review their network policies and consider whether URL filtering or allowlisting is appropriate for their security posture.
For headless deployments, ensure that API keys and authentication tokens are properly secured using environment variables or secret management systems. The --yes flag bypasses confirmation prompts but does not bypass authentication requirements — Ollama still requires valid credentials for cloud model access.
